SANDING
We offer
an expert sanding and re-finishing service for all types of wooden
floors, both hard and softwood.
First the floor is thoroughly
sanded using modern machines with highly efficient dust extraction. Various
grades of aluminium oxide paper are used to achieve a uniformly smooth finish
prior to lacquering. All corners and awkward areas are properly sanded with
specialist machines and when the floor is absolutely clean and free of and
dirt / old finish, it is thoroughly vacuumed.

At this point, if a colour / tonal change is required, a stain
can be applied followed by three coats of lacquer ( key-sanding between each
coat for optimum finish ). If the natural, unadulterated patina of the wood
is preferred, only lacquer is applied.

Most houses over sixty or seventy years old will have original
pine floors ( often under carpet, hardboard or Lino ). However filthy or ugly
these floors may seem, we can renovate them and leave you with a natural floor
that will increase the beauty and value of your home ( ask your local estate
agent !)

Many old pine floors will need a certain
extent of renovation as boards may be damaged or un-level (due
to heavy ´cupping´ or ´cambering´), often
there are large gaps between the boards that let in draughts and
in kitchens can be a hygiene problem; however, these can be filled if required.
